Hey Ya’ll! I’m sure that many of you already know that I love me some Beignets and every time that I am in New Orleans its a must that I make a pit stop to get one of my favorite treats. Every time I return home from traveling I go on and on about how delicious Café Du Monde Beignets are and the kids always ask “Mommy when are we going to New Orleans to try the Beignets”. I decided to purchase a box and let them try them. Actually this is their second time tasting them since I have cooked them before but since my niece, nephew and cousin were here for the Summer I wanted them to experience them as well. If you can follow the directions then they are super easy to make but you just have to be super quick. These delicious treats cook really fast in hot grease and must be coated with sugar immediately upon being taken out of the grease. Here’s how you make them step-by-step:
- In a bowl add 2 cups of Beignet Mix with 7 fl. oz of water. Stir with spoon until blended.
- Roll into 1/8″ thickness on floured surface, using flour liberally on dough. Cut into 2 1/4″ squares or use a cookie cutter like I did. Makes about 2 dozen.
- In an inch or two of oil at 370 basting continually on each side until puffy and light golden. Drain well. (Oil should be hot enough for dough to pop to surface in 8-10 seconds.) Electric skillet works best.
- While hot Sprinkle generously (and I mean generously) with powered sugar. Serve with a cup of Community Coffee or Tea. For ideas on sweet treats to make with Community Coffee click here.
